We had a sewing party yesterday!

Lot of scraps...
And some willing workers!
Some Smiling workers!!!
And...
Some Quilt loving workers!!!

We now have LOTS of blocks ready to make some quilts!!!
Graduation is in June...
So....
We have time to make a few more blocks and
then.....
Make some quilts!!!
Yeah!
This was a great group project.
It was so easy to sew those strips onto paper...
Trim the block to 9" square...
Viola!!!
Even the beginners had GREAT success!!!

Fly away.

Did you notice?
I've been getting lots of quilting in this week?
This is almost the END of my quilting vacation.
I didn't go anywhere.
I stayed home.
I stayed home a lot!
The cost was very low...Only ONE trip to buy fabric!

It's been great!!!
I really needed a vacation.
Almost everyday, after I got the kids off...
I did some sewing!
But now...it's almost over.
I celebrated by making this little quilt for

And tomorrow to top off this great week of sewing...
I'm going to make quilt squares with friends at church!!

Next week...I'll try to get my house in order...
or will I?????

Giraffe fun!

Make one 9 patch using 6" squares.
Make three more.
Cut them in fourths for a Disappearing 9 patch.
Am I stuck on this pattern???
:/

A simle quilt.
Flannel front and back.
No batting.
Perfect for my California climate.
:)

Another pieced backing.
Love using that fabric up!
Don't you?

Now...
This binding was hard for me to use.
There is SOME fabric that's hard for me to
USE UP!!!
I love this fabric!!!
It's almost gone! :(
BUT....it IS perfect for this quilt!!!
There'll always be more fabric...right?

NOW...
IF you really want to make the most of the fabric you buy...
IF...you want to use up those little pieces
that aren't going anywhere soon.....
And you're not attached to it...
Like I am to that cheddar check up there in that binding.....

Make Another little quilt with the leftovers!!!
Don't measure.
Don't fuss.
Just SEW. SEW. SEW!!!!
And donate some love!

This little quilt is just leftover pieces
surrounding a small scrap.
It's not the most beautiful quilt...
But...
I saved the scraps from a long life in the cupboard
PLUS...
I didn't have to put them away!!!
LOL!!!!

I even used some binding strips from my 2 1/2" strips drawer
that had been wondering where they were going to end up!!!
NOW...
They get to CUDDLE!!!
Isn't that what we all want?

I couldn't wait.

Two simple borders SURE make a difference, huh?
I just couldn't wait to show you all!!!

I love this quilt sooo much already!
I'm also dreaming about applique on that blue border.
Won't that be fun???

One GREAT thing about this quilt....
Everything was given to me or in my cupboard
EXCEPT...
that great Turquoise/blue gingham border!
I found that today, extra wide, $1.98 a yard!!
That was almost given to me.....right?? right.

neighborhood update!

My little village is coming together!
Lots of zigzagging plus I added some details
with easy peasy steam-a-seam.
The clouds around the sun are one of my favorite details on here...
but I was so sad.
I used the very last bit of that fabric...
I didn't have enough for more clouds!!!
:(
Guess that's what you get when you
JUST use your stash.
And that's what I like to do!!!
It makes it more of a challenge!!
I think it needs at least one more border...
Blue?
Red?
a simple plaid??
The decision will keep my brain nice and busy today!;)

How about you?
Did you notice everyone's house project
over there on the sidebar?-------->

You should run around the neighborhood
and see what people are doing with their
little, tiny, itty bitty house!!!!
Pip even made a quilt with her
winning houses!
Woo Hoo!!!

therapy

I received some house blocks from Benta last week.
She knew she was late for the neighborhood block giveaway...
...but sent them anyway.
Sweet.
She didn't know it...but I needed these blocks today!!
I need some sewing therapy!!
And they are the perfect prescription!!

Thank you BENTA!!!!

You can see I just laid them down on some fabric
and now I plan on zigzagging my troubles away!
I also had all those lovely orphan strips
that had already been sewn together during another
sewing therapy session. ;)
Aren't they a great match?

Part of this therapy involves figuring out
WHAT to put in the middle and around the houses!
I'm dreaming about a big sun!
We'll see.
Putting my mind on this little village
gives me such happy thoughts.
I'm thankful I can sew today!!!

Benta also sent these four machine embroidered beauties.
I'm saving them for another day....
 when....
sewing therapy is needed!! ;)

quilting bees

My online quilt bee friends sent me
half square triangle 16 patches this year.
LOTS of little half square triangles!!!
My quilt measures 41"x49".

I think I might add one more row of 16 patch blocks
and make this quilt square (49"x49").
What do you think?

Someone at my house thinks it's
JUST FINE
the way it is!!!
;)

grandma!

I've posted before about being a "quilt Mom".
Well.....this week....I became....
A quilt GRANDMA!!!
Woo Hoo!!!
;)

FYI:
My daughter thinks this post might be a bit misleading.
Soooo...to clarify my post.....
I'm a quilt mom to Jenn in quilting only.
Therefore...
I'm her daughter's quilt grandma in only the
quiltiest sense of the word!!! ;)

robots

A little quilt.
Only 40" square.
Is that too small?
Well...it was fast and easy!
AND it looks like it's the right size...
BUT.... 40" sounds so small! :/
I thought I'd be bordering those hourglasses with white.
But the white I had was not long enough....
Turns out......
I had just enough robot fabric for the sides and....
the BACK!!!
Isn't it nice when things work out perfectly?
Almost like it was "meant to be".

I suppose the new baby will enjoy looking at
ROBOTS
on the front of the quilt instead of
plain ol' WHITE on those borders!
Right?
right.
AND
the new mom will not have as much
***white****
to worry about keeping clean!!!
It did look nice though. ;)

Double Hour Glass

I was asked to make a baby quilt on Sunday.
Would I?? You bet I would!
I've been wanting to try this quilt block...
the double hour glass.
I had this inspiration fabric all ready to go!!!
This is my scientific method for choosing my scraps:

First:
Find some cute fabric like the one above.
(I can use this in the quilt itself, the border or the backing)
Next:
Lay it out and pay attention to the colors used in the print.
Last: ( the messy part)
Start pulling scraps out of boxes and drawers
and lay them next to your inspiration fabric.
Do they kind of go along with the colors in your inspiration fabric?
Yes?
THAT'S the fabric you choose!
(don't forget to clean up the explosion of fabric
that surrounds your work area!)
LOOK!!!
I even had these little boy's shirts
with  HAPPY plaids that I think will look great in this quilt!
(little boy shirts don't come with as much fabric...
but I LOVED these colors and snapped them up
when I saw them at the thrift store.)
The double hour glass block is super easy!
I'm using 2 1/2" wide strips, 27" long.
For this small quilt I am not repeating any fabric...
soooo....
This requires very little of each fabric chosen!
Just one strip! Woo Hoo!!!
I sewed them together.
Pressed away from the white fabric.
I'm using the 45 degree line on my ruler
and cutting some triangles!!!
Four pieces.
One block.
Isn't that easy?
yep!

rag doll

The baby shower is tonight!
The quilt was ready to go.
All I needed wanted was a rag doll to match!!!
And....
I NOW I have one!!!
Woo Hoo!
I think I'm in love!

I'm in love with striped legs.
I'm in love with scrappy hair!
I'm in love with felt buttons!
AND.....
I'm in love with a simple smiley face!
:)

D9P

I love this quilt.
I love these colors.
This is how it started.
5" squares, sewn together
and then cut in fourths.

It was so fun collecting all these pretty fabrics
that I thought might go together.
I used gold/oranges in all the center blocks.
That, I think, gives those blues a little "POP"!
I also TRIED to use darks in the middle squares that were
cut in half.

You can see here that I used some of the extra fabric
for a 5 1/2" border.
Oooooh! I can't wait to quilt this one!

LOOK!!
I even took the time to cut my scraps into little squares!!!
2", 2 1/2", 3"......
I'm ready to begin another quilt!

little girl's work

Even Little girls need a bag with some handwork!!!

My young friend is prepared!!!!

Thank you Aunt Anna!
Your niece is ready for crafty Thursday morning!!

The letters are attached using iron-on adhesive.
Then....
Outlined with embroidery floss using a running stitch.
Simple.
Beautiful.
